How Much to Build a Pickleball Court?

The total cost of building a standard pickleball court ranges from $2,000 to $20,000, from basic budget to high-end. Why such a wide range? It mainly depends on whether your pickleball court is for casual play or a professional setting. The equipment and flooring materials will also differ. Therefore, the cost primarily depends on your requirements for the court—indoor or outdoor.

1. Costs Included in Building a Pickleball Court

Based on our experience as a leading manufacturer and customizer of sports flooring, the key costs in building a court lie in the pickleball flooring and the cost of renting or purchasing the court. Overall, you need to consider the cost of flooring materials, installation, court rental (purchase), matching ball posts and nets, rest area facilities, and (indoor) lighting.

If you truly want to build a pickleball court that offers a competitive price while meeting the performance requirements of the sport, the following guidelines will be very helpful. We provide a detailed list and selection advice for the flooring and related facilities:

From our previous articles, you can learn everything about pickleball courts, from construction specifications to material selection and color matching. This comes from our many clients, especially those in Southeast Asia and the Philippines who are passionate about pickleball.

2. Outdoor and Indoor

Indoor courts often use vinyl sports flooring matting as the primary pickleball flooring material. You can customize it to your needs, such as the texture of the floor surface pattern. For example, the depth of the stone pattern is standardized, normally greater than or equal to 0.15mm. If you feel the friction is insufficient, you can customize a deeper texture. This flexibility allows your pickleball court to meet more precise needs while balancing costs.

For outdoor courts, we have spent a year developing and adjusting the formula hundreds of times to create PVC outdoor pickleball flooring with acrylic coating. Its advantage lies in combining the strengths of pure acrylic coating and PVC flooring materials, offering cushioning and resilience while enhancing wear resistance and UV resistance. Therefore, it eliminates the need for liquid acrylic paint, allowing direct application to the ground and saving the cost of repeated painting during maintenance.

Whether indoors or outdoors, you can construct a standard performance and size pickleball court using the two materials described above at a relatively low cost. Although the flooring is the main purchase expense, it’s relatively low, especially when choosing our factory; bulk orders receive even greater price discounts.

3. How to save costs when building a pickleball court?

To build a standard pickleball court and minimize expenses, the most important factor is quality, followed by price.

Quality can be assessed by requesting samples from the supplier, conducting tests, and obtaining relevant inspection reports. This provides better proof of the pickleball flooring material’s quality and long-term stable use. This is crucial; if there are quality defects, replacing the entire court later would be necessary, undoubtedly resulting in the highest cost.

As for price, while ensuring quality, we all aim for the lowest possible price. Across different platforms, choosing the primary factory is always the right choice. You can determine whether a sports flooring company is a distributor or a direct manufacturer by visiting their factory in person. If you have extensive purchasing experience, whether at offline exhibitions or online, you’ll find that only the primary factory offers the best prices—I believe this is without exception.

Of course, this all assumes you’re building multiple pickleball courts. If you’re only building one, the purchasing process is simpler. Feel free to contact Dongxing Plastics for pickleball flooring samples and test reports!
